New model for calculating the Tourism development index

Scientists from the Institute for Tourism in Zagreb have, in collaboration with prof. Vuk Tvrtko Opačić, Ph.D., established a new model for calculating the Tourism development index for cities and municipalities.

The main motive to create a new model arises from the need for high-quality and precise definition of the degree of tourist development of cities and municipalities, in order to establish an effective and transparent system that will alleviate the current unevenness in the tourist development of Croatian and better valorise its resources. In addition, the new model provides an opportunity to create better analytical and information platform for the implementation of sectoral policy measures in the field of tourism. The main purpose of the Tourism development index is to formulate Croatian tourism policy in such a way as to make maximum use of available resources in all parts of Croatia, while ensuring the sustainability of tourism activities from an ecological, social and economic point of view.
