Author Guidelines

TOURISM: An International Interdisciplinary Journal is an academic open-access quarterly with over 65 years of tradition in publishing articles that address contemporary tourism issues. As the second oldest tourism journal in the World, TOURISM welcomes submissions on various aspects of travel and tourism, particularly those that take a critical approach to existing knowledge and deal with emerging issues in the travel and tourism sector.

The Journal fully adheres to the ethical guidelines for research and publication described in the Guidelines on Good Publication (http://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines) and Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (joint statement by COPE, DOAJ, WAME, and OASPA; http://doaj.org/bestpractice).

Manuscripts submitted to the Journal can be processed quickly if they are prepared according to the author guidelines. It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that the manuscript is free of grammatical, spelling and typographical errors. No contribution will be accepted which has been published elsewhere, unless it is specifically invited or agreed by the Editor.

TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS. The Journal publishes four types of contributions: original research articles, case studies, critical review articles and short communication articles. Except for short communications (1500-2000 words), submissions should be between 5000-7000 words long. The Journal operates a double blind review process. Each manuscript entering the review stage is evaluated by at least two expert referees.

PUBLISHING FOR THE FIRST TIME. Early career researchers, especially those who are publishing for the first time, are encouraged to submit their manuscripts. The editor will make efforts to facilitate the communication with the reviewers.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION. Manuscripts must be submitted in English, electronically via Scholarone Manuscripts at https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/tour. All manuscripts should be accompanied by an abstract (200 words) and up to five key words. Authors should submit a manuscript file with no identifying author information and a separate title page with author details.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION. Tables and figures should be provided both in the main document and as separate files. Tables and figures that are submitted as separate files need to be provided in the original programs in which they were created (e.g. for tables and graphs created in Excel, the authors should attach the original Excel files; photographs or maps should be in one of the following formats: jpg, tiff, gif, bmp, psd or cdr). Authors should be consistent when using abbreviations, terminology and referencing. In the case of survey-based studies, authors are required to attach a copy of the data collection instrument used (e.g. questionnaire and/or interview protocols).

REFERENCES. In-text references should be formatted according to the author/date style following the APA Publication Manual (6th ed.). Example: (Smith, 2018). If there are three or more authors, quote all authors the first time you cite them (e.g. Smith, Peters, Johnson & Myers, 2018), then abbreviate this by quoting the first name and using et al. (e.g. Smith et al., 2018). Give all names in the reference list. The list of all references should appear at the end of the main document in the alphabetical order of authors. A referenced article should contain all authors' names, year of publication, article title, publication title, volume and inclusive page numbers. A referenced book should list author name(s), year of publication, title of the book, place of publication, and publisher per the following examples:

Book chapter:

REPRINTS. Authors will receive one printed copy of the journal and a PDF version of their article. The articles will also be available for download from the Croatian scientific portal http://hrcak.srce.hr/turizam.

FINAL MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION. Authors whose manuscript has been accepted for publication will be sent a PDF proof for final examination. Because we are trying to facilitate timely publication, any corrections should be returned as soon as possible. Tables, graphs, pictures and illustrations should be provided in editable formats whenever possible (e.g. for tables and graphs created in Excel, the authors should attach the original Excel files; photographs or maps should be in one of the following formats: jpg, tiff, gif, bmp, psd or cdr).

The authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript and the accuracy of all enclosed data.
