The Institute for tourism conducts competitive internal scientific projects, one of which is the scientific project entitled research and planning of sustainable mobility and tourism (IPOMIT) (Project manager: Prof. Goran Kos, Ph.D.). The proposal of the scientific research project Research and Planning of Sustainable Mobility and Tourism (IPOMIT) refers to primary research conducted in the scientific field of transport and tourism. The project is divided into four groups of research in which there are studies of road traffic flows and tourist flows using already known methods and new research methods. For the needs of the first group of research on road traffic flows in urban and non-urban areas, the development of tourist traffic flows and capacity (throughput) on characteristic and specific traffic infrastructure are investigated. Investigations related to the characteristic infrastructure were carried out on the city network of the City of Zagreb on the open part of the A-3 highway (without lateral obstructions, between the junctions Zagreb Zapad and junction Lučko, near the Zagreb rest stop). An amendment was also made to the existing counts from June 2024 on the open section of the A-3 highway (without lateral obstructions, between Buzin and Velika Kosnica junctions - 2 directions), in the Zagrebačka avenija and Savska underpass (2 directions), on the four-lane Sava bridge, on Ljubljanska avenue and in the tunnel on Aleja Bologna. A summary of the project is also attached.

Measurable indicator of project results
At the New Technologies, Development and Application VII conference, a paper entitled: Intelligent traffic safety management on a section of a multi-lane motorway, by Sadko Mandžuk, Krešimir Vidović, Goran Kos, Luka Dedić, was presented (July 28, 2024, Sarajevo, Scopus - Q4). The paper describes a model of intelligent traffic safety management on a section of a multi-lane highway. The system is based on an accident risk assessment that uses real-time traffic data on the highway section. An advanced system for giving warning messages to drivers will also be analyzed. As one example, a warning system is described when the use of mobile devices by drivers is detected. The model is especially acceptable during the tourist season when the highways are maximally full.
