Dr. Hrvoje Carić at the MED2050 Workshop in Dubrovnik

This week, Dr. Hrvoje Carić from the Institute for Tourism participated in the #MED2050 foresight workshop in Dubrovnik, an initiative focused on envisioning the future of the Mediterranean by 2050.

This is only the third time such a regional process has taken place. The workshop was opened by the Vice President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Šuica, and hosted by Plan Bleu, the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Center, together with its president, Degron Robin, and the French Ambassador to Croatia, Fabien Fieschi.

Discussions centered on concrete challenges and solutions. Climate change, water scarcity, urbanization pressure, and ecosystem shifts are no longer just predictions but a reality demanding urgent and effective responses.

With 65 years of experience in strategic planning, scenario development, action planning, and implementation monitoring, the Institute for Tourism made a valuable contribution to this process, emphasizing the importance of a science-based approach in shaping a sustainable future for the Mediterranean.

Participation in this important and constructive dialogue is another step toward a shared vision of a resilient and sustainable Mediterranean.
