As part of the partner meeting of the Interreg project People Powered Tourism in Timișoara, we had the opportunity to take part in testing two pilot actions that demonstrate new approaches to tourism development — approaches that emerge from local initiatives, involve a wide range of stakeholders, and transform existing, often overlooked resources into meaningful experiences.
In the city’s industrial district, we experienced a tour that brings together creative spaces, social entrepreneurship, and the circular economy into a cohesive spatial experience.
In the village of Parța, near Timișoara, we tested a tour based on local resources, initiatives, and the hospitality of the community.
This approach shows how tourism can bring tangible benefits to the local community — not only through economic activity, but also by strengthening cooperation, connecting stakeholders, empowering vulnerable social groups, and fostering a sense of belonging and shared development.
