Call for contributions - conference "Women in Tourism: Lessons Learned or Lessons Forgotten?"

The Institute for Tourism, in cooperation with the University of Westminster, UK, Equality in Tourism International, UK, and Croatian Acadamy of Sciences and Arts is organizing the conference Women in Tourism: Lessons Learned or Lessons Forgotten?, which will be held from April 19 to 21, 2023 in Split.

The keynote speakers of the conference are Sanda Čorak, PhD (Institut za turizam), Stroma Cole, PhD (University of Westminster), Marina Novelli, PhD (University of Brighton), Marco Valeri, PhD (Niccolò Cusano University), Irena Ateljević, PhD (Aspira University College).

The role of women in tourism is mostly viewed through the prism of gender inequality, connected with the continuous need for women's empowerment as important stakeholders in the tourism industry. Undoubtedly, that is a hugely important agenda as the lowest paid jobs and the jobs holding the least status in tourism are mostly occupied by women (1). Yet, with this conference we aim to move our gaze towards more positive stories and a more powerful view of women’s role in tourism. The key aim of this conference is to demonstrate and celebrate the multiple roles and positions of women in tourism.
