Tourism based on active stays in nature is increasingly recognised as an important tool for sustainable development, as it connects landscapes, local traditions, and communities into authentic visitor experiences. This approach lies at the core of the People Powered Tourism project, which emphasises the active role of local stakeholders in shaping the tourism offer.
In the rural surroundings of Slavonski Brod, through a process of educating local stakeholders and jointly mapping local resources, we are developing an innovative active tourism product entitled “Active Weekend in the Surroundings of Slavonski Brod.”
Building on natural assets, traditional knowledge, and existing yet insufficiently valorised local potentials, the objective is to design an experiential weekend programme that encourages time spent in nature, authentic interaction with the local community, and sustainable travel patterns.
Through the People Powered Tourism project, this concept is being developed as a participatory, community-led model aimed at strengthening local cooperation, fostering the involvement of rural stakeholders, and creating new development opportunities for the local community.
