Institute for Tourism participated in the NT4CC meeting in Sardinia

As the lead partner of the NaTour4CChange (NT4CC) project, the Institute for Tourism took part in the organisation and implementation of a three-day meeting and the 3rd pilot destinations exchange workshop, held from 15 to 17 April 2026 in Villasimius, Sardinia.

The NT4CC project is part of a broader European effort aimed at strengthening the resilience of Mediterranean coastal tourism destinations to climate change. Through collaboration among partners from several countries, the project develops shared methodological approaches and concrete Nature-based Solutions (NbS), with a strong emphasis on integrated management and multi-level governance.

The meeting in Sardinia brought together representatives of pilot destinations – including Dugi Otok – as well as project partners and experts, with the aim of exchanging knowledge, aligning approaches, and accelerating the implementation of on-the-ground activities.

Over the three days:

  • key progress was presented in the development of so-called “flagship” NbS solutions in pilot destinations,
  • their technical and economic feasibility was discussed,
  • approaches to visitor communication and sustainable destination marketing were further developed,
  • structured workshops were used to identify common challenges and define concrete steps to address them.

Special emphasis was placed on peer-to-peer learning among destinations, which represents one of the key added values of the NT4CC project. Through such processes of knowledge and experience exchange, the capacity of destinations for effective climate action in tourism is strengthened.

As part of the meeting, a Project Steering Committee session was also held, during which the next steps in the implementation of project activities were defined under the leadership of the Institute for Tourism.

The third day was dedicated to a field visit in the Villasimius area, where participants had the opportunity to see concrete examples and the potential for applying NbS solutions in coastal ecosystems.

The NT4CC project confirms the important role of the Institute for Tourism in international research and development initiatives, as well as its contribution to shaping sustainable and climate-resilient tourism policies at the European level.
