The basic elements of the attraction of the City of Bjelovar are certainly the harmony of the urban core of the City, with an emphasis on the central park with the pavilion and the Cathedral of St. Theresa of Avila. Furthermore, traditional events such as the spring and autumn international Bjelovar fair, BOKfest and Terezijan stand out, as well as attractions related to active tourism in Bilogora. Finally, in addition to the listed material attractions, it is necessary to point out some intangible features such as the tradition of cheese production, but also the comfort of staying in numerous restaurants that contribute to the impression of relaxed living in Bjelovar. However, the City of Bjelovar, despite a high-quality and high-quality tourist attraction, is one of the county centers of Croatia with the lowest rates of tourism development, which directly best documents the data on less than 2% of all tourist arrivals in central Croatia (eVisitor, 2019). Bjelovar is located in the contact area of several traditional regions, including Slavonia, Podravina, Moslavina and Bilogora. Bilogora is the region to which it belongs most strongly, with it being the least defined traditional region, and thus the identity of the City itself is insufficiently recognizable.
This represents the current situation, but it is necessary to point out the huge potential for the development of a number of selective forms of tourism, from memorial (Barutana area), through health (thermal springs Korenovo), cultural (urban core), cycling, but also eno-gastronomic tourism (slopes of Bilogora). ) etc. This document will provide guidelines and a framework for action of all stakeholders in the field of tourism development in the City of Bjelovar. Trends, the current situation and available forecasts on tourism trends will be taken into account, as well as development projects and ideas of all local stakeholders who should be responsible for tourism development. Based on the above, the Tourism Development Plan of the City of Bjelovar from 2022 to 2027 provides an integrated strategic framework for the activities of various public sector institutions, economic entities and other stakeholders of the City involved in tourism development.
