The strategy was developed for the period of ten years. The main problems faced by the town of Hvar is still lingering image of a party destination, over-concentration of tourism demand in the port of Hvar and, subsequently, uneven tourism development and short summer season. The strategic recommendations were to gradually depart from the existing model towards the model of sustainable tourism development, reflected in the vision of tourism development and five strategic directions: extending tourism season; ensure more even tourism development geographically, improve public infrastructure, ensure sustainable tourism development and marketing repositioning. Twenty eight strategi projects were identified to move the Hvar's tourism foward.
